Where To Find hope When Your Problems Are About to Conquer You

Sometimes, we feel like we are in a losing battle where our problems are going to beat us

"No in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us." Romans 8:38.

The Biblical passage before this verse lists many adversities, trials, afflictions, and tests.

We are conquerors over...
     * Sin,
     * The devil,
     * The world,
     * Test
     * Afflictions
     * Persecutions
     * Trials.

MORE THAN
We not only overcome our trials but also overcome them abundantly to the point that we are made better off for having been in the trial. The lessons we learn and the character we develop far exceed the price paid by going through the tests. We can rejoice in trials and afflictions in ways that the world can only guess at.  Our test actually deepens our faith and joy.

Being more than conquerors is more than not being overcome by our afflictions but understanding that those afflictions actually cause us to know our Lord better. We are drawn closer to him and are made more like him.

Because we are conquerors, we can face trials and afflictions with joy and courage.

THE SOURCE OF CONQUEST
It is not by a program, education, church, or determination that we can overcome. It is through him who loved us, by the Blood of the Lamb. Victory is achieved through Jesus, whose death has already won the victory. He is the victor because he has overcome. He has defeated sin, death, the world, and Satan- that victory is one of the things we share in Jesus' death and resurrection.

The trials we face are nothing compared to his victory in his death and resurrection.

If we can trust him to deliver us from sin and its judgment, it should be a small thing to trust him to give us victory over our trials.

We come to Him by faith for salvation, for through him we are saved, and in the same way, we come to him by faith for victory.

LOVE
If he loved us enough to die to redeem us, he surely loves us enough to give us victory over the afflictions of our daily lives.

What Can You Do When Everything Is Against You? Help From The Bible. 1 Samuel 14:6

Sometimes it looks like the whole world is against us and there is no way out of a situation. A young warrior once faced a garrison of enemy troops alone but found confidence and victory.

"Jonathan said to his young armor-bearer, "Come, let's go over to the outpost of these pagans perhaps the Lord will help us. Nothing can hinder the Lord, He can win the battle whether he has many warriors or few." 1 Samuel 14:6.

A LITTLE BACKGROUND
Jonathan was the son of the king, Saul, during the times of war with the Philistine nations surrounding the nation of Israel. The Philistines had an outpost that threatened Israel. Jonathan was inspired to attack the outpost alone.

NOTHING
This great statement of faith is full of confidence in God.  There is nothing, no person, and no situation that can stand in the way of God and his intentions.

HE CAN WIN
Since there is nothing that can stand against the Lord he will win, but to say he can win is an understatement- it is a certain fact.

WHETHER
We look at numbers and statistics and we try to calculate if things will go the way we want. The Almighty is not disturbed that the odds are against him. He is God; he will be victorious no matter what. This is saying God is bigger than the enemy, he is bigger than our problem and he is bigger than anything we can face.

IT IS ABOUT THE LORD NOT US
Jonathan put his faith in the Lord of Host, not his own strength or sword. God wins the battle; he can do it by many or few because he does not need numbers or armies.

Jonathan's faith was in the Lord for victory and for salvation from his enemies. His statement of faith and confidence is for the glory of God and is an example to us.

If you are facing overwhelming foes look to the Almighty Father who is far bigger than any problem we can face.

Where Can I Find Strength To Face This?

I hope this short post gives comfort, hope, and encouragement, as it points you to a source of strength as we find purpose in our struggles.

***

We face a test or challenge, it is daunting like a high mountain we must climb, but we feel weak, unprepared, and too small. Where can we get help?

"It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he causes me to stand on the heights." Psalm 18:32-33, NIV.

This verse was written by the warrior poet, David, thousands of years ago; seasoned by many battles he knew what he was talking about.

IT IS GOD
David acknowledges God as the one who provides. These two verses have three references to God.  They progress and build on each other.

     * God who arms...strength.
     * God makes... feet secure.
     * God causes... stand.

God provides the victory, therefore, God is the victory.

ARMS
God gives him equipment for the battle but the equipment is not a sharper sword or longer spear but strength. This is open-ended since the verse does not specify if it is physical, spiritual, or emotional strength, but that makes it limitless- God can give whatever strength you need.

SECURE
God was his protector and gave him security in his way. He can make our physical way secure from attack and harm.

There are other forms of security. In every difficulty there are choices. God gave David security in his choices. God makes the way clear and without compromise so the victory is honest and upright.

FEET LIKE A DEER
The deer of that land were adept at climbing the rocky mountains in search of food and shelter. They were nimble, sure-footed, they would not stumble or fall, and they dominated the mountains. God can give the perfect provision that is completely suited to your need.

STAND ON THE HEIGHTS
This is the one who has overcome and is standing on the top. This speaks of victory and accomplishment. From the heights were security, domination, and rule. Those below had to look up to see him standing there. Standing is a picture of confidence and status.

The heights were a picture of worship. God makes us stand on the heights of worship because he is gracious not because we climbed the mountain; His son climbed a hill carrying a cross to die to pay for our sins so we can stand before him on the heights.

Whatever mountain you face God can give you strength and stand you on top in the victory.

Who Cares If You Have A Broken Heart?

We all experience a broken heart at some point in our lives, we may begin to feel like no one cares, but what if there really was someone who did truly care? The Bible has an answer from Psalm 34:18.

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Psalm 34: 18, NIV.

LORD
What we know of the Lord is slight and pale compared to the truth of Him, but He is full of virtue, and that should give us hope beyond measure. He is the absolute ruler of the universe from the stars in heaven to the blade of grass under your feet. He is all-knowing, all-understanding, all-powerful, all-caring, all-compassionate, all-love, and all-wise.

CLOSE
"The Lord is close..." His presence is not distant; He is not standing off in a corner or finding something else to do while we hurt. He sees our hearts with compassion and understands our pains and loss. He is not far away in some cloud watching angles fly about- He is right here with us. He is close in his attention toward us, close in his presence and close in his thoughts. It is like his heart sees our heart with all-knowing love.

BROKENHEARTED
These days we hear how you must be strong, that men do not cry, you should overcome, and not be weak. Some people may avoid us if we tell them about our pain, but "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted." He is with us in so many little ways, we just need to stop and wait to see Him. When we look we find his hand held out to us.

CRUSHED
What is worse a broken heart or a crushed spirit? A crushed spirit is defeated and feels like giving up, or it is the person who has so many defeats that they can't start again. It is a comfort to know that the Lord saves. There is something of value in our experiences, there are lessons we learn; there is a purpose, He is doing a mighty work in and through us. We sometimes do not recognize that we are experiencing "saving" at the time but we can count on him; it is a promise that the Lord saves "those who are crushed in spirit." As we go through a dark time we can count on the promise of this verse and the truth of God's character that he is close to us and desires to save us through the times of hurt.

This Bible verse implies a relationship. We need to call out, and come to Him and made the Lord-of-All your Lord.

How Does The Bible Help My Fear? Psalm 27:1

We are often beset with worry and fear. Sometimes it is about our future, our loved ones, our personal well-being or just chronic worry. Fear can overshadow everything in our life. It can cripple us and keep us from living the kind of life we want to live. What can we do about it?

"The Lord is my Light and my salvation. Of whom should I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life- of whom shall I be afraid?" Psalm 27:1, NIV.

THE LORD
First, consider the Lord. He is the all-powerful creator of the universe. He rules creation and has the ability to command events from the greatest storm to the smallest insect. The Lord is our creator who loves and knows us. He is the one who sent his son to die to pay for our sins- this is a loving God and a powerful father.

LIGHT AND SALVATION
That God is our light should be comforting to us because He is all-seeing and all-knowing, not only that, it is the fact that the one who is all-seeing and all-knowing is on our side. Light reveals the phantoms of darkness to be nothing. Evil seeks shelter in darkness for the Bible says "men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil,*" but light robs evil of its support, light even chases away evil.

He is our salvation, not we ourselves. We may be helpless to fix many of the problems that come into our lives; and the biggest one, our sin, is beyond repair. But God is salvation, and not us. We need not rely on our weak efforts and lack of ability. He is able, He is willing, He is our salvation.

STRONGHOLD
A stronghold by definition is a safe and secure place. It is the highest quality of fortress, not a tent but a bombproof ironclad citadel. It is the place no enemy can ever get into, it withstands all the efforts of the foe.

OF WHOM
Of whom is a question without an answer since God has no equal. If The All-powerful Ruler is your indestructible fortress there is no one who you need to fear.

FOCUS
We spend much time thinking about the little things that will cause pain and problems. Let us turn our focus on God not these lesser things

To say God is our salvation is a faith statement. We do not have salvation by osmosis, it is a gift God gives to those willing to receive it. To learn more about finding salvation read my other blog,  follow this link: Click Here.

How To Get God's Help With a Big Problem.

We all face battles, big and little. Sometimes we face them daily, sometimes they loom on the horizon and creep closer over time. Some battles are with people, like a boss, or roommate; others are with situations, like finding a home, or job, or paying the bills. Other battles are fought in our hearts, caused by loss, an unfulfilled need or pain.

This Bible passage offers hope:

"The men of Israel were subdued on that occasion, and the men of Judah were victorious because they relied on the Lord the God of their fathers." 2 Chronicles 13: 18, NIV.

A LITTLE BACKGROUND
There was a war between Abijah, king of Judah and Jeroboam, king of Israel. Judah had four hundred thousand fighting men, but they were outnumbered by Israel who fielded eight hundred thousand troops. Righteous Abijah climbs the hill and boldly declares to his overwhelming foe that, "As for us the Lord is our God," verse 10. Israel attacks Judah from the front and ambushes from the rear. When Judah saw that they were out-maneuvered they cried out to the Lord, the priest blew the trumpets and the men raised the battle cry; then at the sound of their battle cry, the Bible says that Lord routed Jeroboam and all Israel.

OBSERVATIONS:
Lessons can be learned from this Bible passage:
  • We must declare that "The Lord is my God."
  • We must "cry out" to the Lord, and pray for His deliverance.
  • We should, be like the trumpet blast and give testimony to the Lord.
  • We should rely on the Lord.
Often we rely on ourselves to figure out a solution, or we want a formula or magic bullet to fix our problems, but we must remember the simple lesson to rely on the Lord.

GOD OF OUR FATHERS
The specific title for God is instructive. The God of their fathers is in contrast to the gods of the societies opposing them. In our age, there is much clamor to adopt views of God that is not true to him. If we are open we must consider the prospect that the gods of our age may not be true and there is a possibility that the God of our Fathers is the true God after all. This God of Our Fathers is one who listens to our cry and gives victory. This is the God of Love who sent his son to die for our sins.

Let us resolve to seek God and grow deeper in our reliance on him to find victory today and always.

What is the Answer for Worry? Matthew 6:25

Worry can really cripple us, emotionally spiritually and in practical life. If your worries are little or big Jesus' teaching points to the perfect answer.

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, yet our heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable then they?" Matthew 6: 25, 26. NIV.

In history's greatest sermon Jesus deals with many issues; one of which is worry. Many things constitute worry. We might be worrying if we...

     * Take things and turn them over again and again in our imagination.
     * Take a situation and start to imagine all the different ways it could turn out.
     * Dwell on all the "what ifs" about a thing.
     * Wear out a subject in our mind.

HELP
Christ points out several basic things people worry about, they are legitimate like the need for food, water, and clothes. There are lots of other worries he could have listed like public safety, old age, disease, and finances. In our modern complicated world we have many more things to worry about, like school, career, the effects of technology on our daily lives, city life, loneliness- the list can go on and on. Some of these worries are monumental to us.

WHY
Jesus said "do not worry," and gives a good reason. If Our Heavenly Father does such a good job of taking care of birds that are small what about humanity who are more important to God than birds. It is genus that Jesus chose birds as his example since some birds eat many times their own weight each day. God does a good job of caring for his creation so what about us who are so much more valuable than birds?

LOVE
People are the object of God's eternal love. He sent his Son to pay for our sins and there-by fulfilled our greatest and deepest need; if he did that out of His love and care for us what else is he willing to give or do? (See Romans 8:32.)

COMMAND
The way Jesus said, "do not worry," is like a command. If we continue to worry we are breaking a command and need to confess that sin. We need to...

     * Pray and confess
     * Tell God my concerns.
     * Acknowledge that he is in charge.
     * Receive His peace.
     * And leave it all with Him.

May you find all your cares are fulfilled by his loving provision today and always.

Where To Find Hope In A Bad Situation

What help and comfort is there for someone in a bad situation?

"Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, So the Lord surrounds his people both now and forevermore." Psalm 125:1-2, NIV.

A REMINDER
Some things we hear over and over and though they are old and simplistic they are still true. We need reminders to be practical in our faith. Not just to start our day or week with a little prayer and go on without another thought about God; that would be a good beginning but a poor ending.

TRUST
We are saved by trusting the Lord, but we need to "trust in the Lord" must as a daily or moment by moment faith. As we go through our day we must bring God along. Every day is full of situations, problems, thoughts, feelings, people, and things that challenge us. We must not rely on our own ideas or the ability to solve them. Sometimes a quick prayer as an expression of faith in God is all it takes. Other times it is more complicated and takes seeking Our Lord out in prayer, searching the scriptures, meditation, and counsel with godly friends.
  • We need to pray often and tell God we are trusting him and tell him the reasons why.
  • We need to remember Bible verses that have promises and pray to claim them.
  • When we are trusting in ourselves we must repent and tell God, and renew our trust in God.
  • We need to stop running back and forth, both physically, and mentally, and rest in Him.
AN ENCOURAGEMENT
It is encouraging that "The Lord surrounds his people." As we go through difficult situations we can know the Lord went ahead, he is beside us, and he is covering our backs. We can trust him and then drop our guard because he is our guard on every side. We may feel all alone like no one understands, no one knows our pain and worry; but he was there first, he is next to us with his hand on our shoulders, and he is behind cleaning up the mess. He surrounds us and the enemies can circle all day long but they won't find a crack to get in.

A HOPE
He surrounds us both "now and forevermore." There will never be a time when God does not surround us. We may feel like he has left- but these feelings are not the fact. When trials come we need to pray and claim this truth, "He is surrounding me." We could look at those trials and say, "Do your worst- God has me covered!"

What Does The Bible Say About Success? Proverbs 16:2

How do we become successful, and what is the key?

"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed." Proverbs 16:3, NIV.

At first, that looks like a clear, and simple verse.  It looks like a formula for easy success, but if you look deeper you find there's more to it because to commit something to the Lord is hard.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO COMMIT
Commit is not a word you hear every day.  You might hear someone had committed a crime, meaning it happened. You might say, I made a commitment, meaning a promise you will surely keep.  You may say I will commit something to memory, meaning I will put it to memory for good. You might say, I am committed to a cause, meaning you are given over to it.

To commit something to the Lord is all of this and it will also be...
  • To honor the Lord.
  • That the end will please Him.
  • That He will be in charge.
  • That I will be submissive to His instructions.
  • That the cause of the Lord will be advanced.
  • That people will look and see God, not me.
  • And that He might (and probably will) change the plans.
A WAY OF LIFE
This is a way of life verse; it says, "whatever you do;" so it could be anything: a job, career, school, housework, or marriage. This verse is so totally open-ended it is like saying commit to the Lord anything you do; or maybe we should say, commit to the Lord everything we do. That might change everything for us!

OUR PROBLEM
We find we are very committed to ourselves. We need to begin with prayer and confession. We need to search our motivations because we know we cannot commit sinful plans to the Lord. We remember, he must increase and I must decrease.

WHAT HAPPENS
When we commit our plans to the Lord something will happen, we get more of the Lord.  We find him there and discover more about him, for his plan is that we know him.

GOD WILL SUCCEED
God's idea of success may not be what we had in mind. We may want a bigger paycheck, he may want us to have more trust; we may want loving relationships, he may want us to be forgiving; we may want a big title, he may want us to wash the disciple's feet. If we commit our plans to the Lord we are committed to his definition of success. When we are committed to allowing God to work our success as he sees fit we will find greater success than we originally envisioned.

Why Are There Defeated Christians? 1 Samuel 17:4

We know we should be doing great things for God, but often, we seem to get nowhere.

"All those gathered here will know it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves, for the battle is the Lord's..." 1 Samuel 17:47, NIV.

The conflict between David and Goliath was not private but designed to be a public spectacle. The enemy of the Lord loves to openly humiliate and defeat the Lord's own. Our struggles do not happen in secret. We may keep them from friends, but there are angelic and demonic witnesses to our faithfulness and our betrayal of faith.

OUR BATTLES
Why Are There Defeated Christians?
We think that we will win the battles of our times with bigger weaponry, more dollars, or greater campaigns. However, technology, organizations, movements, and political parties do not win the Lord's battles.

In 1 Samuel 17:4, David was facing a giant problem, yet his focus was not on his abilities or weaponry. He did not say, "It is not by spear or sword that I will save," but "it is not by spear or sword that the LORD saves." He saw the struggle was not a conflict between two armies, ideals or political entities or even between his king and the Philistine leaders, but it was between the Holy God and that which opposed him.

THE LORD'S WORK
Some translations use the word "saves," "delivers," or "rescues." Defeat in ancient times meant the vanquished were often annihilated, and families enslaved. The fight was for national and personal salvation; the armies of Israel were facing such an overwhelming foe that the thought was not of victory but of survival. Here God is not a helper but the one who alone rescues, the Lord saves means total dependence on the Lord. David looked to him to be the Savior.

WHOSE?
The battle is the Lord's. We feel that we are struggling and fighting against the evil overrunning society. When we make the battle ours, we lose it. It is the Lord's battle—not ours. Victory does not depend on us; it depends on him.

DAVID'S EFFECT.
There are many points to ponder in the lesson of David and Goliath.

     * When the youth David faced the giant, he stood his ground.
     * He acknowledged and glorified the Lord.
     * He obeyed the Lord.
     * He was prepared by accepting earlier challenges, such as the lion and bear.
     * He used what he knew- the sling and stone.
     * He refused man-made contrivances such as the king's armor and trusted on that which was provided by God- a rock.

These are all wonderful points, but the greatest is that the battle is the Lord's, and that lesson is a lesson of faith we often need to realize over and deeper as we go through our lives

Let us make a similar declaration of faith, and go out in faith and face our Goliaths.

How do we have victory as Christians. Proverbs 2:7

Is victory bought through sacrifices or earned by charitable works or some other way?

"He holds victory in store for the upright; he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless." Proverbs 2:7 NIV.

VICTORY

God holds victory, which means victory is certain; it is in store, waiting to be claimed. The Lord offers victory to the upright, not the smartest, beautiful, educated, or even those who have correct doctrine but those who are upright or live right. Living right is not by our ideas but by His truth.

SHIELD

A shield offers defense and protection. God is our shield; he is our protection, not a system, philosophy, technology, but the Almighty One. Nothing can get through, past, or over Him; there is not a better shield. The implication is that if we do not live uprightly and blamelessly, we forfeit victory and God's protection.

THE KEY

The words upright and blameless are key to this verse and to victory. We know that God is holy and absolutely righteous, and no one can stand before him uprightly and without blame.

FAITH

How do we become upright and blameless? It can't depend on our efforts; it must come from God. We know that salvation is a gift of God (Ephesians 2:8-9). Salvation brings the gift of righteousness. We are given an upright position in Christ but shouldn't neglect it. We must turn from sin and live a life of short accounts where we constantly confess and repent our sins. Part of walking in blamelessness is a gift and part of our responsibility; it is a partnership between you and God. He gives uprightness as a gift, part of salvation, and we live upright lives by choice empowered by the Holy Spirit. We are given blamelessness before God regarding our sins in Christ, but we must also choose to live lives blameless before our fellow man.

HE IS OUR VICTORY, NOT US

Many feel defeated, but we don't lose victory- we reject it; it is in reserve to be provided for those who claim it as their privilege in Christ. If we feel no longer upright or blameless, we must come to God in confession; we must turn from our sin and receive his forgiveness and the accompanying victory.

This verse is positive and absolute. The words “He holds” and “He is” are affirmations that have no doubt. If you have come to God through Jesus, you can see God as one who holds victory and who is a shield.

When Christians Are in The Rat Race Of Life, 1 Corinthians 9:24:25

God Loves You
The best of us can feel life is frustrating. Even those of us who live a life of faith still feel like we are in a rat race and wonder what is all the busyness is for.

"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training, they do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever." 1 Corinthians 9:24-25 NIV.
Run for the prize. 1 Cor 9:24

LIFE FOR THE CHRISTIAN
The Christian life is like a race, but it does not need to be a frustrating rat race.  Yes, it is hard and to win a race you have to train with self-discipline.  You need to expend energy and effort to remain focused and keep the goal ahead of you. This is counter to our modern way of life where we have a do as you please attitude, and a live for the moment philosophy.

ENEMIES
The believer has at least three enemies: the world, the flesh, and the devil. As we battle our enemies we should ask ourselves these questions.
     * How are we doing in our battle against the flesh with its appetites and lust?
     * Do we surrender the battle and give up the rewards that victory will bring?
     * For the sake of a few minutes of sleep forfeit morning devotional time with the Lord?
     * Or for the sake of an entertainment event skip fellowship with believers?
     * Do we choose relaxation over service?
Too many have exchanged the blessings of heaven for the wreath of fading leaves.

THE PRIZE
In a race, only one gets the prize- this reminds us that if we are not diligent we will miss out.  We still finish the race but second place does not win the crown.  The prize is not salvation since the Bible does not teach our works save us but only our faith, the prize is the reward for a life lived unto the Lord.  We who trust Jesus will finish and get a reward but it is how we run that race now that determines if our reward then will be gold and silver or wood, hay, and stubble.

TOTAL COMMITMENT
An athlete who faces competition does not let himself get fat and flabby; he gets exercise, rest and healthy food.  He brings lifestyle into the process and weighs his actions in the balance of his goals.  He dedicates his body and time to the goal- even though that goal is only a temporary reward of a few mentions in the news or a trophy that will collect dust and end up in a yard sale.  How much more should we who know and love God and have a hope in heaven bring our lives under control for the eternal rewards God has promised us?

Is Victory in My Life Only For Super Christians? 1 John 5:4

We want to have successful victorious lives of living faith, but is it only the Super Saints who experience blessing and victory?

"This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith." 1 John 5:3, 4. NIV.

FOR EVERYONE
It is not the special few who have overcome the world but the verse says, "for everyone born of God," overcoming the world comes as part of the gift of salvation. We all have problems, such as work, health, relationships, and those many things that seem to be against us, but victory is not just for "Super Saints." It is for all believers.

BORN OF GOD
There is a qualification: we must be, "born of God," not born of our own good deeds or efforts but born of God. (See the Gospel John, chapter 3). To be born of God we need to:

• Admit that we have sinned and are in danger of God's condemnation.
• Agree that we are not able to save ourselves from punishment.
• Recognize the death of Jesus was to pay for our sins.
• Know that God offers no other salvation except through Jesus.
• Trust in God’s offer of salvation based on Jesus' death on the Cross.

OVERCOMES
The Apostle states it like it is a fact, those born of God overcome the world, it is just something that happens. Daily defeat is not part of God's will. We will always have trials and temptations, but God's plan is for us to overcome in and through those issues.

VICTORY
Our victory is to be everywhere, not a selective victory like a little here and none there; it is a victory over the world- all of it. Nothing is bigger than God's overcoming victory.

NOW
This is a past tense victory; it is a done deal for Jesus’ cross conquers all. We are not waiting for some future victory. All the evil in the world is already defeated, we just need to get the word out, and we just need to act like it.

There is saving faith where we become "born again" in Christ, but there is the faith that we need to take with us when we walk out the door; it is the ongoing experience of faith, a "God is by your side" faith. You might work it out like this, say to God. “I'm in a situation. I know You are already victorious. I know You are with me. I will accept Your victory and act like it.”

May you experience God's victory today.

What Is The Secret Path to Success? Proverbs 16:3

Can a book, class, or seminar teach you success? Yes, it was written by the wisest man ever lived, and Solomon put it in one sentence.

"Commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed." Proverbs 16:3. NIV.

To our modern ear, this sounds archaic and naive, like folklore or superstition, but upon reflection, the depth of these words becomes clear and the truth of it obvious.

WORTHY
If you commit some task to the Lord, you must do it in a way that is worthy of Him. You can’t just slam something together haphazardly and say it honors God; you need to behave honorably and do your best to the highest standards. You approach it as if The Almighty is watching over your shoulder- because he is.

PARTNERSHIP
To commit something to the Lord is to bring Him into it. He is the God of victory and is jealous of his name; He does not like things to be done in his name to fail. You are inviting His blessing, but more importantly, His partnership.

PLANS
Another side of commitment is giving up your say in the plans. We must be able to give up our plans to our Divine Father's will and control. If we give our plans to God, then it is in His hands to grant success or failure. He may change the plans and probably will!

WHATEVER
You should commit life's important events and projects to the Almighty, but we can commit “Whatever” to the Lord. There is no task too small or insignificant to be worthy of God. Few of us can be architects of grand schemes; not all of us can build a hospital or establish a fund to care for orphans in the Lord’s name.

We can commit to the Lord.
  • Doing the dishes,
  • mowing the lawn,
  • writing a paper,
  • cleaning your room,
  • washing the scum off the shower
  • Your job,
  • your relationships,
  • your home,
  • car,
  • bank account,
  • clothing,
  • and whatever is important.
A PROMISE
It is a promise of scripture that your plans will succeed. It may be that He will rewrite the proposal and add a few lines to the blueprint or some other way to bring about success. His idea of success may not be like yours, but it will be better.

THE MOST IMPORTANT POINT
If you are going to commit something to the Lord, it must be done as an act of worship and service to give God glory and honor among men.

So whatever your plans are, you must commit them to the Lord. He wants us to, and He will honor it.

Some Fatherly Advice- Victory. Proverbs 21:31

How can you succeed when you face conflict?

We face many battles, some of which we can anticipate, like when we know a report is due or a test is coming. Some battles come without warning, like a debate in the lunchroom. The Bible points to the attitude that leads to success.

"The horse is made ready for the day of battle but victory rest with the Lord.” Proverbs 21:31. NIV.

REST
This verse makes two points. First, though victory may “rest with the lord” you must do all that you need to do to be “ready.” Preparing a horse for battle took a lot; it had to be properly shod with iron shoes, equipped with a harness, saddles, and even armor that fit securely. A warhorse had years of training for speed and strength, and to follow the commands of the rider. Much time and expense were spent getting a horse ready for battle, so we must not neglect the hard work.

Rest is not a battle word or a concept consistent with conflict. You rest after the battle, but here victory is associated with rest; as if it is done, finished, and waiting. Imagine victory resting in the palm of God’s outstretched hand, and He is extending that hand to you. Victory is waiting for you to take it, but we must receive it by faith.

VICTORY
The second and greater point is that “victory rests with the lord.” You do everything you can to be ready, but you know it is God who gives victory. He is the one who inspires the professor to give a good grade. He is the one who causes the judges to rule you the winner of the contest. He is the one who brings the audience to give a standing ovation. God invented “Victory.” It is His possession, and He gives victory to whom He will.

These truths call for practical faith. Since victory “Rest with the Lord,” we must acknowledge Him and His Victory. Here are some suggestions:

      Pray each time you start your study time, open your book, or begin a project. (Simply, like saying grace at dinner, it need not be complicated.)
      Pray before you train, practice skills, or prepare for a task.
      Thank God in advance for the victory He has in store for you.
      When you turn in a project or give a performance, tell God you accept His will for the results.
      When you receive the results, acknowledge God’s provision, both to God in prayer and verbally to others.

We must be like the soldier who has their horse trained and equipped, always ready for battle; we need to study, practice, and work diligently. The Day of Battle can be the hour of victory if it is prepared for with many moments of Faith.

My Prayer for Victory
Father, God of all Power and Lord of Victory,
I look to You on this chasm edge of battle’s dread.
I have made all the preparation that I ever can,
Even that readiness has been by Your potency.
I surrender to You, and go forward in Your name.
I ask You to grant success for success rest with You.
Win or louse, good or ill- I accept what You provide;
Knowing my good is ever what Your love desires.
I give You thanks now though I have not seen the results.
I know I will give thanks soon in joyous celebration.
