Is There Something Dangerous About Jesus' Teaching?

Is there something that is dangerous about the teaching of Jesus? He himself warns that there is in John 12:35.

"Then Jesus told them, “You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. Whoever walks in the dark does not know where they are going." John 12:35, NIV

JUST A LITTLE WHILE LONGER
This is a temporary world, and our lives here are temporary. Although the one who believes in Christ is eternally secure, which means that salvation cannot be lost, the opportunity to be the light in this world is only for a short time.

WALK WHILE YOU HAVE THE LIGHT
Jesus used the word walk to describe the totality of life. Walking is one of the most common activities of a healthy human being. It is a metaphor for the travel through our lives to the destination we all face at the end.

THE LIGHT
You may hear a powerful and convicting sermon, or go on a wonderful mountain-top retreat or participate in an eye-opening mission service but if the lessons you learned from God in those times are not lived out every day thereafter they will wither away inside you and instead of being a blessing become a weight holding you back in every area of your life.

The phrase, while you have the light, suggests these blessed truths will not always be there or that we are in danger of losing it at any time. In the context of John 12:35, the disciples must have thought that Jesus was referring to his death when His light would be taken then, but we must all take warning to live the truths we have been given.

WHOEVER WALKS IN THE DARK
Many people fail to be true to the light of Jesus' teaching. They have little understanding, mix it all up, and hurt people in the name of God. They wander in the dark and cause others to stumble after them.

Neglecting the teaching we have received is dangerous. If we fail to live out the light we have been given, that light will become darkness inside us. We must all be diligent about staying in the light of Christ's teaching and practically living that light.

How Does The Bible Help My Fear? Psalm 27:1

We are often beset with worry and fear. Sometimes it is about our future, our loved ones, our personal well-being or just chronic worry. Fear can overshadow everything in our life. It can cripple us and keep us from living the kind of life we want to live. What can we do about it?

"The Lord is my Light and my salvation. Of whom should I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life- of whom shall I be afraid?" Psalm 27:1, NIV.

THE LORD
First, consider the Lord. He is the all-powerful creator of the universe. He rules creation and has the ability to command events from the greatest storm to the smallest insect. The Lord is our creator who loves and knows us. He is the one who sent his son to die to pay for our sins- this is a loving God and a powerful father.

LIGHT AND SALVATION
That God is our light should be comforting to us because He is all-seeing and all-knowing, not only that, it is the fact that the one who is all-seeing and all-knowing is on our side. Light reveals the phantoms of darkness to be nothing. Evil seeks shelter in darkness for the Bible says "men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil,*" but light robs evil of its support, light even chases away evil.

He is our salvation, not we ourselves. We may be helpless to fix many of the problems that come into our lives; and the biggest one, our sin, is beyond repair. But God is salvation, and not us. We need not rely on our weak efforts and lack of ability. He is able, He is willing, He is our salvation.

STRONGHOLD
A stronghold by definition is a safe and secure place. It is the highest quality of fortress, not a tent but a bombproof ironclad citadel. It is the place no enemy can ever get into, it withstands all the efforts of the foe.

OF WHOM
Of whom is a question without an answer since God has no equal. If The All-powerful Ruler is your indestructible fortress there is no one who you need to fear.

FOCUS
We spend much time thinking about the little things that will cause pain and problems. Let us turn our focus on God not these lesser things

To say God is our salvation is a faith statement. We do not have salvation by osmosis, it is a gift God gives to those willing to receive it. To learn more about finding salvation read my other blog,  follow this link: Click Here.

Where To Look When You Need Personal Guidance.Psalm 119:105

Our world is a complicated place full of traps and opponents who would love to see our downfall. Where can a person get solid, trustworthy advice?

"Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path." Psalm 119:105, NIV.

People say, "OK, that's the verse that says we need to read the bible or memorize scripture, and it will help us to live a good life," but remember, "familiarity breeds contempt." This verse says more than what we heard in our childhood Sunday lesson. The Word of God is not metaphysical. It is living and active; it responds to our lives through its relationship and will guide us if we embrace it.

THE WORD
The word referred to is God's Word, called the Bible or scripture; it is not man's word or the words of philosophers or teachers; it is the Word spoken by God. God is big enough to communicate to man, and he is powerful enough to preserve and protect the integrity of its message.

LAMP
A lamp is the source of light, and the word of God brings light to our lives. Light reveals things around us, and God's word certainly does that, but it also reveals things in us, too; it puts light on our sins and personal evils. God's word will not let us off the hook; it will make us deal with our hearts to change us from the inside out. It is constant and untiring, though slow the Word of God will change us.

FEET
Feet are the locomotion that gets us through the world. It is in the common everyday living that the Bible guides us not just in the big decisions.

LIGHT
Light comes out of the lamp; it shines ahead, exposing the pits and stumbling places. Light not only enables us to see, but it also reveals what it is we see. The shape in the dark may be a bump in the road, a large rock, or it may be a predator waiting to attack; physical and moral senses are weak, but God's word searches the path, and if we are sensitive, it will show the pitfalls that await us.

DIRECTION
Without the Word of God, we will drift off and wander into some moral quicksand or spiritual swamp. We are all traveling on a path through this life, and it leads us to an end where we stand before God. Jesus did not teach there are many ways to God but one. Jesus said, "I am the way the truth the life no one comes to the Father except through me." John14:6. If you are not on the path to God through Jesus, you are on a dark path that will lead to eternal separation from God.

To Proclaim the Lord, A Forgotten Beatitude; Psalm 89:15

God Loves You
The Bible pronounces many blessings, but one of the most important may be one of the most overlooked.

"Blessed are those who have learned to proclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence."
Psalm 89:15 NIV.

BLESSING
The word “Blessing” can mean “Happy,” or “Glad.” It is more than being fortunate, it means God has given His approval, assistance, and favor.  Scripture makes it clear that God wants to bless us.

PROCLAIMING
This blessing begins with proclaiming God.  To proclaim something is to shout it from the rooftops. We should boldly declare in the marketplace, streets and wherever the greatness of our Great God.

To proclaim God is a skill to be learned.  The gift of evangelism is the kind of gift that gets developed and matures with use, yet if we don't have this gift we may still learn to declare God's greatness. When we get frustrated with sharing our faith we should press on to discover how.

God blesses us when we proclaim Him, and we experience joy, just ask any who are faithful to share their faith and they will tell you how much joy it gives them.

GOD IS OUR BLESSING
The second part of this blessing is God himself.  It is awesome to walk in the light of God's presence, We long for mountaintop experiences with God but shouldn't we long to "walk" in his light? Walking sets us apart, humans walk in a way that no other creature does. It is a daily and common experience for any healthy person.  To walk in the presence of the Lord must become our daily habit and choice.

LIGHT
God's presence brings light.  Light reveals sin, shows the way and clarifies what we see.  Light gives safety and comfort. We know God is omnipresent but to walk in the light of God’s presence is to choose to count on, recognize, and honor God's presence.

CHOICE
Blessings almost always involve choices on our part.  We must avoid things that darken His light in our lives.  Disobedience and sin do what no other power in the universe can accomplish- it can darken God’s light, at the very least in our lives and at most in the world around us.  Let’s put away even the most minor sin and choose to walk in His light.

TWO TRUTHS TOGETHER
These two truths go together for you cannot do one without doing the other.  We cannot proclaim Him if we are not walking in the light and if we are walking in His light we will be compelled to proclaim Him.

Resolve to walk in his light and to proclaim Him.

What Is The World's Only Hope?

Is there any hope for the world?

You would think the teaching of Christ would offer a solution. We read Jesus’ words and feel they are for someone else but his words of hope and challenge are for all of us to take to heart.

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.” Matthew 5:13.

SALT

There is nothing to boast about in being called a mineral that comes out of brackish marshland, but it has virtues that challenge us.

To say, "You are the salt of the earth;" is to say, "You are the world's only hope." Jesus does not give you the choice. We must get radical and make his truths relevant to ourselves and others. We must fill our lives in doing good unto others.

YOU

Jesus spoke to individuals, and his words speak to each of us today. We can't say, “My church is doing something for God, so I'm OK.” Being salt is a personal mandate. It says we each must live the attitude that we are the last living Christian and the work of Jesus to the world was on your shoulders alone.
Matthew 5:13

You can't save the whole world but you can influence the five or ten people God gave you. Be salt in those lives, bring the flavor of love and joy to their lives, sting them with the challenges of righteousness, and preserve their well-being at a deep cost to yourself.

SALT-LESS

Today's world has seen salt-less Christianity and has thrown it out. Today's Christianity is often conformist and wants membership without making waves; creating a soft cuddly church culture that focuses on comfort. Like the terminal patient who receives no treatment just morphine to deaden pain while they expire.

HOW
Jesus asks, “How can it be made salty again?” It cannot so we must not let it happen that we are no longer making a positive difference in the world. Begin with repentance and prayer. Ask God to show you where you have failed to be salt to those around you. Ask Him to show you where to start. And pray for those in your own community to become “Salty” too.

Salt just is; it has no will or ability to choose, it is simply being what it is. We must be who God meant us to be- the light of Jesus to a dark world.
