Why Should I Be Thankful For This Day?

There are good reasons to be thankful today, even if you feel like it is going to be another day of conflicts, uphill hardships, and difficulties.

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24.

THIS DAY

No matter what trials you are facing you can be assured that this day was planned by the Lord, it passed His review process and He has approved of this day. You may not understand His will for the problems you find today, but He made this day in all the little ways that are part of it. His plan for today is guided by His love and wisdom.

THE LORD

It should comfort us to know that Our Heavenly Father is in this day. As the Eternal One, He was in this day long before you were born. As the All-knowing One, He foresaw "today" from before the creation of the stars. As the All-Wise One, He knows you down to the core and with mercy designed the challenges you face today with respect for your weakness. As the All-Loving One, He cares about what happens to you today. He has a purpose; it may even be to turn your weaknesses into strengths that you face difficulties.

REJOICE

This verse directs you to rejoice, so resolve to be glad. It may be by an act of will but it is right to "rejoice and be glad," for The Lord is in control. You have a lot of reasons to rejoice.

     * First it is commanded many times and places in the Bible.
     * God loves you.
     * He is working on things in your life that are deeper than we see.
     * He is the God of Victory, and Lord of Success.
     * His plan for your good will be accomplished.

THE TEMPLE

The context of this scripture verse is in that the building of the temple is being celebrated. The psalmist rejoices to see the cornerstone of the foundation laid and understandably he rejoices. We live in a similar day, though we may not see laborers dragging a cornerstone into place. Instead, we are being built ourselves into something just as sacred, God's eternal living temple the Church.

No matter what problems you face today know the Lord is in this day. It may be that the hardships you face are designed by God to bring you to Him. If you want to know more about coming to him Click here.

What Brings Joy To Our Hearts? Psalm 105:3

Many in our world are grim and desperately looking for some inner hope of purpose and joy.  Even people of deep faith struggle to find inner happiness. What is the source of joy?

“Glory in his holy name, let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.”
Psalm 105:3, NIV.

GLORY
To glory in something is like celebrating it.  We know what we glory in by what we talk about and what boast about.  You might glory in your job or accomplishment or family status.

HOLY
Today few rejoice in the Lord because we have lost a sense of His holiness. His holiness is a wonderful thing;
     * It is a foundation of God's goodness.
     * It means that God will not sin.
     * It means that He is above the wickedness of our world.
     * It means that God will act righteously and fairly in each of our lives and the affairs of men.
     * It sums up His character.

SEEK
We should continue to "seek the Lord."  To seek the Lord is not just for some spiritual elite; nor is it something that happens just once when we are converted.  Today's man rushes from place to place, from event to task and then rushes home to relax and unwind leaving no time to seek the Lord.

To search for God is a daily endeavor.  It looks for the Lord’s hand in our lives.  It is and an attitude that considers him and his word often, and every day.  It puts the pursuit of God at the top of our daily planners.

LET
To let something it to allow it to be or happen, it is to put nothing in the way and refuse to stop.  Here the word let is an action word and points to a decision.  It is to purposefully choose this thing.

HEART
“Heart” symbolizes the deepest part of the basic person, and on the level of my deepest person; our very hearts should be caught up in the joy of the Lord.

REJOICE
Rejoice is like joy in action and joy-giving expression.  It is when our hearts are caught up in joy in the Lord.  If our hearts rejoices in anything else than the Lord it is second best at best, or maybe even idolatry.  We rob ourselves of the joy we could have by denying joy access.

DO IT
We should “let” our hearts rejoice, and remove the barriers to joy, like sins, disbelief, and busyness that crowd the Lord out of our lives.  We need to allow ourselves to rejoice, even pray for joy.

If we "glory" in his holy name we will rejoice because our hearts will be fulfilling the spiritual purpose for which we were designed.

If your glory is the Lord then joy is in store for you- if you let it come.

Where Is Hope In Sorrow? Psalm 30: 4, 5.

So many times, we feel despair, loss, rejection, and disappointment when we desperately search for hope and relief.  Where can we find comfort for our souls and healing for our hearts?

“Sing to the Lord, you saints of his; praise his holy name. For his anger last only a moment, but his favor last a lifetime; weeping may remain for a night but rejoicing comes in the morning.” Psalms 30: 4, 5.

ENCOURAGEMENT
This pair of verses should lift you up.  First, it encourages you to get your eyes off of yourself and look at the Lord.  You need to remember life is not all about you, but the Lord, it is about knowing Him, serving Him and loving Him.  You need to remember to focus on God and worship Him, to sing His praises, not your woes.  You will find it brings healing to your heart and spirit when you sing and worship the Lord.

LOVE VS ANGER
The Bible teaches much about God’s loving nature but also about His anger.  The Lord is holy, and His anger is holy, too; he is not capricious or angry out of malice, but his anger is guided by His justice.  Our sin and disobedience may move us into the place where God’s just anger is focused, but this verse promises that His "anger lasts only a moment;" you may have to endure the consequences of your sin for a long time, but you can be assured of an immediate return to the joy of His love upon confession and repentance.

BLESSINGS
His favor, like grace, is goodness given to us when we do not deserve it.  He longs to have a relationship based on His favor, not anger.

Our Heavenly Father is committed to you, His child, and has given you blessings and favor.  Take time to consider His blessings; one thing is clear- the favor trumps the anger, and to the believer, it outlasts his anger.  God does not desire to leave us in the night of sorrow.  He sent His son, Jesus, "...to give us life and life to the full" (John 10:10).

PROMISE
You may have nights of weeping, with nothing left but tears.  You may think that your sorrow will remain forever, but the sun does rise, and there is an end to it. The promise of this verse is that "Rejoicing will come in the morning." The imagery of night and morning tells us that there is a timetable with the Almighty- a time where sadness will end, a time set by Our Father for the tears to end and the laughter to begin.
