Foundations in Leadership 1.7 For South Columbia Baptist Church

This is handout 1.7 (Leadership is Devoted) in Foundations to Leadership. I wrote it to help develop the Youth Leaders (LITs) in our Awana Club. This hand-out and others like it are given the the kids at the end of the club to take home and review during the week. They write out answers to the questions which they then discuss with a mentor, and return to the club. I do not object to it being copied and used.

Foundations 1.7 Leadership is Devoted.

“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.” Acts 2:42 NIV.
This verse characterized the nature of the average Christian in the early Church in Acts.

1. Define the word “Devoted.”

2. What would it mean to be devoted to the apostles’ teaching, to fellowship, communion, and prayer? Write the answer in space below.

3. Why would being devoted to the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, communion, and prayer be essential for serving in the church? Write the answer in space below.

4. What would happen if a leader was not devoted to the apostles’ teaching, fellowship communion, and prayer? Write the answer in space below.

5. Circle which you feel weakest; devotion to apostles’ teaching, fellowship, communion, or prayer.

6. How can you improve in this area? In one or two sentences create a plan. Set a goal. Make it simple but measurable.
