How To Recognize Wisdom. James 3:17

How can we recognize wisdom? It is a valuable asset in a person's character. If you can identify this person they would be the person of choice.

"But the wisdom that comes from above is first of all pure, then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere." James 3:17 NIV*.

THE SOURCE
From above, it is from God and learned in the study of his Word, the Bible, and the fellowship of prayer and devotion. It is not that the wise believe in God or religion- it is who his faith in God has made him into. It is gained through much time with the Creator.

PRIMARY
It is first pure, without malice or agendas. It is innocent of wrongdoing or wrong thinking. It is free from pride, vanity, lust, and vainglory. This purity is of the heart, and from it grows out all the other traits of wisdom.

PEACE-LOVING
We all want peace, but the wise not only wants peace; they love peace. Peace is its passion; this makes it patient and gentle, not causing strife but being a peacemaker.

OTHERS
It is others' focused, not about self. It is considerate; it takes the needs, feelings, and concerns of others and elevates those above itself.

SUBMISSIVE
It is not arrogant, but it is humble. It takes the role of the servant. It is willing to yield its own rights to others. It is not inflexible about opinions or views but will bow to the moral standard when a difference of opinion may occur.

FULL OF MERCY
It is merciful. It leaves justice to the hands of God and practices the character of God that forgives. It has the mercy of actions, not just goodwill.

GOOD FRUIT
One doesn't need to wait long to see the good fruit. This is the evidence of a life lived wisely.

IMPARTIAL
There is no favoritism but is the same for all who it encounters; each person is treated with grace no matter race, religion, social status, or any other consideration.

SINCERE
The actions that define it are true at all times and to the core of the being.

THE COMMON DENOMINATOR
These tests of wisdom are all tests of actions and not matters of intellect or learning. These actions all have to do with our treatment of those around us. We must not be content to think wise but to act wisely.

The Lord Jesus is the ideal example of one who lived out these standards of wisdom. It is when we come to him to invite him into our lives and walk with him that we grow into wisdom.

YOUTH LEADERSHIP TRAINING 1.12 , A FREE WORKSHEET RESOURCE FOR YOUTH PROGRAM

This is handout 1.12, Qualifications of Leadership from 1st Timothy, part 1, in Foundations to Leadership. I wrote it to help develop the Youth Leaders (LITs) in our Awana Club. This hand-out and others like it are given the the kids at the end of club to take home and review during the week. They write out answers to the questions which they then discuss with a mentor, and return to club. I do not object to it being copied and used.

Leadership And The Essential Message.

Leaders lead, but where? We need to have a direction to lead those who follow. The purpose of Christian leadership is to lead people to know God the Father through the Son He sent. Peter says to be prepared to have an answer for the hope that is in you. So today’s hand out is a review of the plan of Salvation as understood by the majority of mainstream Evangelical Churches.

The gospel can have different starting points- Sin, Gods love, or Jesus’ death, etc. Any Awana verse may be a turning point to change handbook time to a time to lead a child to Jesus.

Use the back or a separate page to answer the following questions.

1. God loves you: John 3:16. Romans 5:8. How would you explain to a child that God loves them?

2. All have sin: Romans 3:23. What are examples of sin a child can relate to? What questions would you ask?

3. All sin must be punished: Romans 6:23. How would you explain to a child sin must be punished?

4. Jesus died to pay for our sins: Romans 5:8. How would you explain to a child that Jesus died for us? How would you explane that his death alone pays for our sins?

5. Getting saved is a Gift: Ephesians 2:8:9. Can you think of an example to use with a child about accepting God’s gift? How would you explain this to a child?

6. We accept or receive this gift by believing God: Acts 16:31. How would you explain this? What questions would you ask? Or what examples would you give?

Here is an example of a prayer someone may say to tell God they are accepting Gods gift of salvation, Lord Jesus, please come into my life and be my Savior and Lord. Please forgive my sins. And give me the gift of eternal life.*

Take at least three turns with your mentor or another Awana leader to practice the gospel outline. Taking turns role playing as the leader and the other acting as the child. Resist the temptation to have fun and be the funny kid, after all the next person you meet may be ready to receive Jesus.

Foundations in Leadership 1.10 For South Columbia Baptist Church

This is handout 1.10, Leadership And The Follower Who Offers The Most Blessing, in Foundations to Leadership. I wrote it to help develop the Youth Leaders (LITs) in our Awana Club. This hand-out and others like it are given the the kids at the end of club to take home and review during the week. They write out answers to the questions which they then discuss with a mentor, and return to club. I do not object to it being copied and used.

Leadership And The Follower Who Offers The Most Blessing.

If Jesus came to our club how would you treat him? What would you do?

From Matthew 24:31-46. (read this passage), we read how Jesus identifies himself with the needy, “Then the righteous will answer him. ’Lord when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you’ The king will reply, ’I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’” Verses 37- 40. NIV.

Why did Jesus say if you have done the service to needy people it is like you’ve done it to him?

Why did Jesus call the homeless, hungry, thirsty, sick, and people in prison his brothers?

Why is it important to show extraordinary love and compassion to the needy?

Other than the ones listed in the verses who else is needy? What other types of needs are there?

Can you identify the needy ones in your circle of influence?

How can you serve with extraordinary love and compassion the needs of those you know?

Why do you think God has brought the needy persons to your circle of influence?

In the Kingdom of God the paradox is that the poor are rich and the wise are fools, (We can think of other examples). Why are the neediest the source of the greatest blessings?

Foundations in Leadership 1.8 , A Worksheet On Leadership For Youth.

This is handout 1.8 (The Gifts of You) in Foundations to Leadership. I wrote it to help develop the Youth Leaders (LITs) in our Church Awana Club. This hand-out and others like it are given to the kids at the end of club to take home and review during the week. They write out answers to the questions which they then discuss with a mentor, and return to club. I do not object to it being copied and used.
_____________

Foundations of Leadership 1.8 The Gifts of You

After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. The man who had received the five talents brought the other five, “Master,” he said, “You entrusted me with five talents. See, I have gained five more. His master replied, “Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!” Matthew 25; 19- 21. NIV.

God has given us gifts of character, talents and skills. The Bible teaches we have Gifts of the Spirit often called Spiritual Gifts, (we will discuss spiritual gifts in detail at a later time). A leader needs to have a sense of his or hers natural gifts as well as their spiritual gifts. Those new to service or leadership may need time and experience to mature into their gifts, so their gifts may not yet be apparent.

1. Why do you think a leader must have a strong sense of their natural and spiritual gifts?

2. Why does God give us natural and spiritual gifts?

3. What is our responsibility to others concerning our natural and spiritual gifts?

4. Why does God call us into account for our gifts?

5. A. What do you think are your natural gifts?

5. B. What do you think are your spiritual gifts?

6. Which Gift do you have natural or spiritual which you can use most to the greatest benefit for others?

7. What can you do to use that gift to serve at Awanas?
