What Do We Know About God? Truth From The Bible.

We do not know much about God, but some things we can be sure of.

"As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord's word is flawless: He shields all who take refuge in him." Psalm 18:30.

GOD'S WAY

God is sovereign, which means He rules all things. He is the ultimate authority and absolute power. He has the merit to be ruler since He is Creator, and as the Righteous One, He deserves to be the ruler. Because God is sovereign, His way is right, and just- and logically perfect.

The phrase "God's way" must mean the way He does everything. We might say this person has a certain way, and we mean there is a consistent manner in which that person does things. God has a certain way, too. His way is unchanging, consistent, right, holy, just, loving, fair, and it is all that we would consider perfect.

PERFECT

We are not perfect. Therefore, we cannot truly understand perfection, and because of that, we cannot fully understand The Lord. A mouse could not understand the complexities of human affairs because humans are above mice in sophistication and technology; since we know The Almighty is higher than we are, we know we cannot fully understand Him, except for what He chooses to reveal us. He has chosen to reveal something of Himself to us, and what He has revealed is comforting and glorious.

Psalm 18:30
WORD
The Word of God is many things. It is more than a set of commands and rules. It reveals who He is and what He desires from us. It points us to His plan of salvation.

If God is perfect and all-powerful, then His Word must be, too; if there is any corruption in His Word, He is weak and not perfect. Those who accept the challenge to objectively test the Scriptures testify that this is true.

SHIELD

You can imagine some disaster that lays waste the land and society, but in the midst of the calamity, the shielding arms of the Almighty are a barrier between destruction and those who look to Him. This is the act of a Loving Father. A shield does not mean that danger is not present, and we still live in a world afflicted with problems, but we can be confident that He is a shield to us. We may not see it that way, but remember, we cannot fully understand God, so we cannot fully understand His shielding.

REFUGE
A refuge is a safe and unique place in an area or time of trouble.  That it exists does not mean you are automatically protected. You must enter refuge; you must decide to go to it; if not, you are not protected.  Entering the refuge is a decision and an act of will. We must come to God to find refuge in Him. He does not force himself upon us but awaits our choice.

We need to find refuge in God during the many crises in our world these days. The greatest need is not sheltered from a storm but our need for forgiveness of sins and deliverance from the judgment of sin.

God fulfilled the need for refuge when he became a man and died to punish our sins.

To Argue With God Isaiah 45:9

Sometimes we argue with God. We may not admit it but it is there in the back of our minds. We say, "Why did you make me like this?" Or, "Why did you give me this history?" We are trying to tell God he is not fair or smart.

"Woe to him who quarrels with his Maker, to him who is but a potsherd among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter, 'What are you making?' Does your work say 'He has no hands.'" Isaiah 45:9.

WOE
This is a serious warning, you cannot succeed against God, and it is foolish to try. "Woe to him who quarrels with his Maker..." The point is clear that God is all sovereign and all-powerful and as such He is irresistible. We are not happy with being called a "potsherd," that is just a broken piece of pottery; but we, like Adam, the first man created, are just dust. We need to be humble, and submissive to God.

SAY
The real bite is, "Does the clay say to the potter, 'What are you making?'" We often say, God, How can you make me like this? Or, why did you put this flaw in me? Or why can't I be beautiful or smart, or athletic? Who are we to tell God how to go about His business? We must remember that the All-Powerful God is also the All-Wise and the All-Loving God. We must trust in His love and wisdom as He molds and remolds us into something for good. He is God, not we.

HANDS
He does have "hands." Or more exactly he has the skill, vision, purpose, and the ability to succeed in what He is doing in our lives. God may use difficulty or pain to mold us. He may allow flaws in us to work out His purpose. He might put us in a messed up family, or a frustrating job, or poverty, or allow an illness to strike, but these are for His good purpose, and as the spinning clay on the potter's wheel we just can't see it right now.

GOD
God is in control if we like it or not, we are foolish to resist Him. We know God is good and whatever He is doing in our lives will be good. Right now God is at work in our lives, like wet clay on a potter's wheel, maybe dull, ugly and slimy; and it may not be what we want, but we must trust His hand to form something good and beautiful in us.

Whatever hardships you face remember God is doing a work of love in your life.

What is the Purpose of my Life?

This short post gives a reference point that is basic to understanding who you are and how you can have direction in life.

Who am I, and why am I here are questions that mankind has asked for generations, but who has an answer?

”I know, O Lord, that a man’s life is not his own; it is not for a man to direct his steps.  Correct me, Lord, but only with justice- not in your anger, lest you reduce me to nothing.” Jeremiah 10:23-24.

If our lives are not our own then we are God’s, and as our Divine Maker, He can rightfully claim His ownership over us.  He is the creator and master of the universe and controls the events of our life.   Since we are His property He may do as He pleases with us.

NOT HIS OWN
If our lives are not our own we must consider the way we live life, and ask ourselves if it is in keeping with our Creator's will and what are the consequences of it?

DIRECT OUR STEPS
The Almighty may direct our steps, for He is in control in all areas.  We may be bent on one way but God may direct our steps toward another path.

As sovereign over all things, God can affect circumstances and set boundaries we can’t cross.  We may have our own ideas and try to direct our own steps but He overrules and points us to the way we should go. When we play god in our own lives we fail, but when we choose to allow him to direct our path then we will walk in the ways of peace and blessing, and we are bringing the wisdom and power of God into the counsel of our agenda.

CORRECT ME LORD
This is a good prayer for us all.  It is submissive to God since it calls Him Lord.  We often go astray and need Our Father set us right.  We know we are wrong to go our own way and that His way is good and best for us.

BUT ONLY
It is fearful to be corrected by The Almighty.  He is all-powerful and holy and in His holiness can blast us to ashes.  Jeremiah beseeches God to correct him, "only with justice," and hold back the wrath of sin's judgment.  We must be mindful of the many wrongs and sins that accompany our wandering ways.  We need The Lord to temper his "correction" with justice and mercy.

NOT IN ANGER
If God dealt with us as our sins deserve we would be without hope and would be in danger of his great wrath, but that this prayer is even in the Bible gives hope that we may pray such a humble prayer and find God's mercy, correction, and direction.

I KNOW
The prophet considered this fact that we belong to the Lord our Maker and that knowledge brought him to make a humble prayer of reverence and submission. May we also consider the fact that our Creator is our Owner and ask for His help to live as He wants us to. This will give us a purpose we would never have imagined otherwise.
