Foundations in Leadership for South Columbia Baptist Church, 1.8 Jesus Example, continued

This is handout 1.9 (Jesus Example, continued) in Foundations to Leadership. I wrote it to help develop the Youth Leaders (LITs) in our Awana Club. This hand-out and others like it are given the the kids at the end of club to take home and review during the week. They write out answers to the questions which they then discuss with a mentor, and return to club. I do not object to it being copied and used.

Foundations in Leadership 1.8 Jesus Example

The New Testament is full of Jesus’ example of leadership, the message is too big to ignore so we will consider it afresh. “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: 6. Who being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man he humbled himself and became obedient to death- even death on a cross!” Philippians 2; 6-8. NIV.

1. These verses talks about attitude; define “attitude.”

2. In your own words, what does it mean that our attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus?

3. What was Jesus’ attitude?

4. Use the verses above and your own knowledge of the scriptures to answer; what things did Jesus attitude compel him to do?

5. How was Jesus attitude different from that of people in the world today?

6. What goals can you set to make your attitude more like Jesus?
