Why Does God Hide From People?

Why does it seem that God is so far away? Is he not willing to help?

“Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear 2. But your iniquities have separated you from your God. Your sins have hidden his face from you so that he will not hear.” Isaiah 59:1-2, NIV.

POWER VS WILL

Of course, God is able. He is all-powerful, and as Ruler of the universe, He can command all circumstances. "His arm is not too short." He can reach down from heaven into the mess of our world and do whatever is necessary.

He can hear us calling to Him, for "his ear is not too dull to hear." What is frightening is that last part, "he will not hear." If it was a matter of God not being able, then we could shout louder, or send up darker smoke signals, or clang a gong; but if he "will not," then we have no hope.

US VS GOD

Why does God refuse to act? Our iniquities (sins) have hidden us from God, and our "sins have hidden his face" from us. Like when someone is offended, they may turn away from you on purpose. Our sin causes God to do just that. God is holy and pure; He cannot allow His holiness or purity to be tarnished or compromised by sin. Sin is the big barrier between God and us.

FORGIVENESS

Redemption, the forgiveness of sin, and salvation are through the person and work of Jesus, who lay down his life to take away the punishment of sin. God, the Judge of the universe, put our sins on Jesus for us. We come to God through Jesus and obtain forgiveness and peace.

CLEAN

We need cleansing. As we walk through this lost world, our lives are affected by sin around us, and we slip into sin. If we neglect daily confession and repentance, God and His blessings seem to be far away.

God asks us to do so little.

     • We must recognize what is sinful.
     • We must confess and admit to God we are wrong.
     • We must turn away from our sin.
     • We must accept his forgiveness based on the sacrifice of His Son on the cross.
     • And get on with life with Him in it.

Through faith, we can know God as one face to face.
