What Have We Forgotten About Worship? Isaiah 12:5

Few of us think much about worship.

Worship may be one of the most important things we do, yet we do not realize how much is implied in the simple act, or how many truths we are expressing. Could it be that worship is the very point of it all?

"Sing to the LORD, for he has done glorious things; let this be known to all the world." Isaiah 12:5.

SING

Singing is often thought of as a form of entertainment and an art form, but here it is an act of celebration. When you sing to someone you honor them and are showing that you value them.  When you sing the national anthem of your country you are celebrating, honoring, and declaring your relationship to your country.

HAS DONE

God has done many wonderful and blessed things in each of our lives. He has given us life and a measure of health and a measure of prosperity. Without focusing on the past we want to remember that we are in debt to the past mercies and glories of God. We should reflect on the great things he has done for us each as individuals and as a community.

GLORIOUS THINGS

His greatest blessing is that he sent his only unique son to be the sacrifice for our sin and pay our debt before his holy justice.

LET THIS BE KNOWN

The verse suggests that worship is a proactive act of proclaiming. We should not be silent, it is just wrong. God has done so much good for each of us we have a moral obligation to communicate to one another. For example, if we were publishing an article we would credit sources or if we were producing a movie we would list the names of all those who supported the project. How much more should we give God the credit that is His for what He has done in our lives?

ALL THE WORLD

This verse starts with a singular voice as if it was speaking to an individual, (the command to sing), and we experience scripture speaking to us individually because it is living, but the verse moves to a sense of the plurality in declaring to the world the deeds of the Lord.

First, we are singing to the Lord, then we are giving testimony to those around us. His greatness, grace, and mercy are worthy of telling to the nations. He is worthy of global praise.

Many faiths are obedient to the command to spread the Good News to the nations. Of course, we want to spread His kingdom and see souls rescued from the bondage and judgment of sin. Part of spreading the kingdom is spreading the worship.

Let us all follow that model of giving God private personal worship personally and then faithfully declaring to others his glorious deeds.

What is the one thing that could change the world's view of Christians?

People today see Christians as narrow-minded with hidden agendas and rigid views.  If there was only one thought that we could live out that would change how the world see God's people what would that be?

"Let all you do be done in love." 1 Corinthians 16:14

LET
This word suggests a choice.  You must choose to love overall options.  You must choose love over being right, better, leader, correct doctrine, or political view.

You must open the door to love from our lives to those around us. You must allow things that facilitate love, this takes thought and planning but to let something happen is to be intentional.

You must not stand in the way of things that are love either.

ALL
This is a word that means everything and without exception.  It means there is no situation that acting in love can be suspended, and there is no situation where love is second place.

YOU DO
To love is a personal responsibility.  You cannot say that it is for others to do or that since a church has a program for the homeless or the poor or a ministry of a loving nature that it satisfies the mandate for you to love, just giving to a loving church is not enough- you must love.  It has to be you expressing love to your community and every person you meet.

BE DONE
These two words are past tense in a present tense sentence.  This is a strong emphasis.  It shouts that the end result of all you are doing in the now must have the effect of love.  There is no I'll start tomorrow, it always does love now.

IN LOVE
So much has been said and written about love that I dare not burden the universe with anymore.
     * Learn and memorize the scriptures on love such as 1 Corinthians 13.
     * Meditate on Jesus teaching on love.
     * Study his example of love.
     * Pray God to open your eyes to ways you have not shown love.
     * Read God's Word looking for scriptures that teach about love, and make plans to specifically obey them.

May God's standard of love be our standard and the measure of all we do.

Without a relationship with the God of love then we are not able to live out true love, to learn how to have God in your life see my other post.

Does Being A Christian Give You A Sense Of Purpose? 2 Corinthians 5:20

It seems like there are different types of Christians; some are like everybody else but others have exceptional lives. What gives them their passion?

"We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us. We implore you on Christ behalf be reconciled to God." 2 Corinthians 5:20.

WE ARE
Paul had a sense of identity. He didn't think in terms of what he wanted to be or that he will be something someday.  "We are" is a statement of fact; it is saying that he already is this, that it is not an option.

AMBASSADORS
An ambassador is someone who represents the interest of another person, usually a head of state like a king.  Ambassadors have many responsibilities, one of which would be to accept the surrender in war.  Christians as ambassadors represent God to this world, and bring His terms of surrender to those who have rebelled, ending their spiritual warfare and bringing peace.

AS THOUGH GOD
An ambassador has to know the person they represent.  Paul was conscious of God and yielded himself to him as God's servant so Paul could speak as if he were speaking on Christ's behalf.  He could do this because of his intimacy with the King.

RECONCILED
A person needs to be reconciled when they are estranged from another person.  To be reconciled is to be brought back together and remove the cause of the division so it is as if no barrier ever existed.

We need to be reconciled to God because our sins have separated us from God.  Jesus became sin for us so we can be brought back to God and not only that we are given the righteousness of Christ himself.

If you have come to Jesus by faith you are his ambassador.  You may be in a neighborhood, a workplace, or a community- wherever you are you are an ambassador to those people.  The King of Kings has commissioned you to bring the terms of peace with God.
